Blue Hens Fall to Charleston Friday Night

Season concludes with series finale Saturday
NEWARK, Del. –The Delaware baseball team dropped a 5-0 decision to the College of Charleston Friday night at Bob Hannah Stadium.

The loss, combined with other results across the Colonial Athletic Association, eliminates the Blue Hens (21-32, 9-14 CAA) from contention for the CAA Championship. The Cougars improve to 35-19 on the year and 15-8 in CAA play.

Sophomore Jordan Hutchins' single up the middle to lead off the seventh inning broke up a Charleston no-hitter. Cougars' starter Griffin McLarty threw 6.0 hitless and scoreless frames on 89 pitches, but was relieved before the seventh.

Sophomore right-hander Chris Ludman got the start on the mound for the Blue Hens, delivering 7.1 solid innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. Ludman struck out seven batters, his second-highest total of the season, and allowed just one walk.

Senior center fielder Kevin Mohollen, who drew a pair of walks in the contest, advanced to third base in the first inning after a steal and a wild pitch, but was stranded there before Charleston captured the lead in the second inning and never looked back.
