NEWARK, Del. – Blue Hen shortstop Karolina Flores belted a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning to give Delaware the early lead but 18th-ranked James Madison responded to post a 15-5 victory Saturday afternoon on UD's Senior Day.
The Dukes (44-7, 20-1 CAA) struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning when Odicci Alexander delivered an RBI single and Sara Jubas added a sacrifice fly.
But the Blue Hens (22-29, 7-14 CAA) quickly answered in the bottom half to go in front. With one out Halle Kisamore doubled, Brooke Glanden was hit by a pitch and Anna Steinmetz walked to load the bases, before Flores cracked a pitch over the fence in leftcenter to give Delaware a 4-2 lead.
After Sarah Piening worked out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the second, Hanna Garber singled and eventually scored on a single up the middle by Glanden to put the Blue Hens up three after two frames.
However the Dukes took the lead for good by scoring four runs in the top of the fourth, including a two-run homer by Logan Newton.
Alexander and Jubas added run-scoring hits in a three-run fifth for JMU, before the Dukes put the game away by scoring six times in the top of the seventh.
Garber, Kisamore, Glanden and Flores each posted a hit for Delaware, with Flores blasting her second home run of the season.
Blue Hen seniors Sarah Coyne, Miranda O'Donald and Steinmetz were honored in a pregame ceremony prior to playing their final games for Delaware.
