A career-long 8.0 innings helped the Blue Hens win a crucial CAA weekend series
RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman righty Joey Silan tossed a career-long 8.0 innings in Saturday's series-clinching win over UNCW and has earned recognition from the Colonial Athletic Association Monday afternoon with the conference's Co-Rookie of the Week award.
Â
In his Saturday outing, Silan struck out eight Seahawk batters and held the opposition scoreless for seven of his eight innings. He stuck out the side in the fifth inning and picked up a strikeout to end his outing.
Â
The Newark, Delaware native surrendered just four hits and allowed his two runs in the third inning to pick up his second win of the season.
Â
His efforts on the bump helped the Blue Hens earn their first series win at UNCW since 2011 and aided in Delaware's CAA Tournament push with two conference weekend's remaining.
Â
Sharing the CAA's Rookie of the Week honor is Tyler Cranston, the freshman outfielder from Elon. This is Delaware's third weekly honor in four weeks with junior Brandon Walter earning Co-Pitcher of the Week on April 29 and senior Kevin Mohollen claiming Player of the Week on April 8.
Â
The Blue Hens will make the trip to UMBC for the second of two meetings with the Retrievers on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. before hosting Hofstra in a three-game set at Bob Hannah Stadium, beginning Friday night.
