NEWARK, Del. – Delaware women's lacrosse head coach Amy Altig announced Thursday the additions of Steph Lazo and Kelly McPartland as assistant coaches.
"Kelly and Steph have the ability to take our program to new heights," exclaimed Altig, who was named the seventh head coach in program history earlier this month. "They both have tremendous playing and coaching experience and their relevance to the sport collegiately and professionally is something that's going to help elevate our player development."
Lazo will be responsible for the program's offensive unit and social media while McPartland will guide the defensive unit and serve as the recruiting coordinator.
A two-time All-American, Lazo graduated from Penn State University in 2017. She spent the 2019 season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Nittany Lions and previously was an assistant coach at Mount St. Mary's.
"I am extremely excited to further my coaching career at the University of Delaware," stated Lazo. "I grew up admiring the rich tradition of Delaware Athletics as my mom, Sue Whitfield Lazo '88, is a women's basketball alumna. I cannot wait to experience firsthand what representing such an incredible university is all about and I look forward to having an impact on the student-athletes both on and off the lacrosse field.
She continued, "Thank you to Coach Amy Altig and the UD athletics administration for giving me this opportunity and for believing in me to help bring the new vision of this program to fruition. I will forever be grateful for Coach Missy Doherty and Penn State University for the experience I gained both as a player and as a coach. Go Blue Hens!"
McPartland arrives in Newark after spending the previous four seasons as an assistant coach at Columbia University. A 2015 graduate from the University of Maryland, McPartland was a standout midfielder who helped lead the Terps to back-to-back National Championships in 2014 and 2015.
"It is such an honor to be given this opportunity to coach at the University of Delaware and I'm so excited to join the UD family," McPartland commented. "I am grateful to Amy and everyone in the UD athletics department for giving me this opportunity and I can't wait to get started and with this talented group. I look forward to getting back to campus as my sister, Stacey McPartland '09, is a women's lacrosse alumna. I cannot wait to go to battle with this staff and this hard-working group of women!"
