Bellinger Tabbed to Preseason All-CAA Squad

The All-CAA performer from a season ago gets her first nod of 2019
RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association announced Wednesday that senior outside hitter Maria Bellinger has been voted to the conference's all-preseason team following a junior campaign in which she led the CAA in kills per set at 4.38 a frame.

Bellinger will be the CAA's second-leading returner in total kills this season, as she hammered home 464 a season ago. That total ranks sixth in Delaware single-season history and fourth in the rally scoring era, while her kills per set rank second in program history for a single season.

The Paramus, New Jersey native is also ranked in the top-15 in career kills at UD, sitting at 1,162 in blue and yellow. That mark also puts her in 14th nationally among active players in career kills.

A Preseason All-CAA honorable mention in 2018, Bellinger put together nine double-doubles last season and has 21 in her career. She set the rally scoring era Delaware record for kills in a single match with 34 at Elon and followed that performance with 33 against Northeastern.

The 2019 Delaware volleyball team opens the season with the Delaware Classic, beginning Aug. 30 when the Blue Hens take on West Virginia at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
