Blue Hens Battle Their Way to 1-0 Win Over JMU

NEWARK, Del. – Coming into Sunday, the University of Delaware women's soccer team knew that JMU had a potent offense with the Dukes ranking in the top-three in the CAA in scoring.
A strong defensive effort and a timely goal from senior captain Dani Kabat helped the Blue Hens shutout JMU, 1-0, for the first conference win of the season.
Delaware has now held 13 of its past 16 opponents to one goal or fewer dating back to the end of the 2018 campaign.
Kabat netted her second-game winner in the past three contests for the Blue Hens when she took a pass from sophomore Sara D'Appolonia just past the midfield line and sped past a defender on the left side and rocketed a shot into the top of the net from 20 yards out to give Delaware a 1-0 lead in the 23rdminute.
Sophomore Kamryn Stablein and the defensive unit would hold strong, helping Delaware post its fifth shutout of the year.
What They Said
"We knew how important defending our home field was, especially in conference. JMU is always one of the most talented teams in the league and we knew we would have to bring our best effort for 90 minutes and really battle for each other. We're excited to get the win and get back to work this week." – senior captain Dani Kabat
"I told them afterwards, this type of effort is a byproduct of a team that truly cares about one another and will fight for each other. We know that this league will grind you down and we know that it will come down to the ability to do whatever it takes to fight for the person beside you. That's the essence of this program and I'm so proud of how this team is fighting right now." – Head Coach Mike Barroqueiro
