A career-high 54 assists in the weekend finale secured the honor
RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association announced its weekly awards Monday and Delaware freshman setter Ezgi Basaranlar earned Rookie of the Week honors after a weekend that included three 30-plus assist performances to help the Blue Hens go 3-0 at the Retriever Challenge.
Â
Delaware is now the only CAA institution with honorees in both of the first two weekly awards of the season as senior Maria Bellinger was the Offensive Player of the Week and freshman Lani Mason earned Rookie of the Week in the first release.
Â
Basaranlar was outstanding in Baltimore, earning all-tournament team recognition. She capped off her weekend with a career-high 54-assist performance that went along with three service aces, two kills and two blocks with five digs against UMBC.
Â
The Istanbul, Turkey native had 34 and 32 assists in the first two matches, each in just three sets. Basaranlar also had at lead five digs in each match.
Â
The Blue Hens are off to their best start since the 2010 CAA Championship season and will now travel to San Antonio for the UIW Cardinal Classic Sept. 13-14 where they will take on Niagara, Incarnate Word and Northern Illinois.
