RICHMOND, Va. – With the season less than two weeks away, expectations are high for the University of Delaware men's lacrosse program.
This week, two of their standout seniors were honored with Charlie Kitchen and Matt DeLuca earning Preseason All-CAA accolades. Kitchen was also named the CAA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
As a team, the Blue Hens were picked third for the second year in a row in the Preseason Coaches Poll, following UMass and Towson, both of whom enter the 2020 season ranked in the top-20 nationally.
Kitchen earned CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Year accolades last season after leading the Blue Hens with 37 goals, 27 assists and 64 points, good for top-five in the CAA in all three categories. He was the first Blue Hen since Curtis Dickson in 2011 to be named CAA Player of the Year.
The Marlton, N.J. native enters his final season ranked 12th in program history in goals (102) and points (157).
DeLuca, who earned Preseason All-American honors last week, earned Honorable Mention All-American honors and Second Team All-CAA accolades last season after a season in which he ranked in the top-10 in the country in save percentage and goals against average.
He is currently one of just 10 goalies in program history with over 2,000 minutes and 500 saves in his career. He enters his final season with a chance to break in to the top-three in school history in both categories.
The Blue Hens open up the 2019 campaign next Saturday, February 8 when they host the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's University.
