RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware sophomore first baseman Brooke Glanden was named CAA Softball Player of the Week while freshman righthander Emily Winburn earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Glanden batted .500 while leading the Blue Hens with seven hits and ranking second with six RBI during Delaware's 4-1 weekend at the FGCU Kickoff Classic. She ripped a double in the season opener vs. Georgetown, and added a two-run single and two walks during Saturday's 9-6 win over UConn. Glanden posted two hits and an RBI in the 2-0 triumph over Boston College, before finishing 3 for 3 with three RBI and a home run during the 11-2 victory over LIU in Sunday.
Winburn went 1-0 with two saves and a 1.83 ERA while making four appearances in the circle at the tournament. She fired three scoreless innings of relief to pick up the save while combining with Sarah Piening on a shutout in UD's 4-0 win over Georgetown on Friday, before allowing two runs in six innings of work vs. FGCU that night. Winburn earned another save with 1.1 hitless frames of relief in Saturday's win over UConn, and then surrendered two runs in five innings to earn her first collegiate win over LIU.
Delaware, which has opened a season 4-1 or better for just the fifth time since 1982, returns to action this weekend with five games at the Incarnate Word Cardinal Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
