WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Delaware men's lacrosse program found itself among an elite group on Thursday night.
Seniors Charlie Kitchen and Matt DeLuca were both named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, which names the top-50 candidates for the nation's top male and female lacrosse student-athletes. The Blue Hens were one of just 15 schools with multiple representatives on the list.
It's the first time in 10 years that Delaware has had a representative on the list with Curtis Dickson finishing in the top-five nationally back in 2010.
DeLuca, who won CAA Player of the Week honors this past Tuesday, is the nation's active leader with 521 saves and finds himself 10th in program history in that category. Last year, he ranked in the top-10 nationally in saves per game and save percentage, while also help anchor a defense that ranked ninth in goals-against-average.
Kitchen, who was the CAA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and reigning CAA Co-Offensive Player of the year, led the Blue Hens in goals, assists and points last year. He ranked in the top-five in the league in all three categories last spring.
Kitchen and DeLuca will lead the Blue Hens back in action this Saturday when they host NJIT at Delaware Stadium. It will be the 1,000th game in program history. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m.
