NEWARK, Del. – The future of University of Delaware women's track & field is bright.
That future was on display this past weekend during a busy weekend which had Blue Hens competing at both the Armory Last Chance Meet and the Princeton Indoor Invitational.
In total, the Blue Hens brought home 20 top-three finishes and conclude the 2020 indoor regular season with 22 ECAC qualifiers ready for Boston in two weeks.
"I'm really proud of the way our team continually approaches each week. We've done a good job of getting better each week and using the energy of the group to have some great performances this indoor season," head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith said. 'I'm excited to see this group competing against some of the region's best athletes at ECACs in two weeks."
Highlighting the weekend was two youngsters, freshman Trinity Tapper and Gabrielle Holliday who both set freshman records. Tapper set a freshman record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.74, which also earned her an ECAC qualifier. Holliday extended her own freshman record in the weight throw with a mark of 53' 2 ¼".
Senior Bethany Clement continued her outstanding season by breaking the 17-meter barrier in the weight throw and her toss of 56' 1" is the second best in program history.
Delaware brought home three wins with Kai Starnes (high jump), Halima Scott (200m) and the 4x400 relay of Alyssa Armor, Naliah Jackson, Taliah Cintron and Jalynn Sharp all taking the top spot.
