STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Each time the University of Delaware track & field team steps on the track, it seems a new record book is needed.
That stayed true once again this past weekend as the Blue Hens posted six ECAC qualifying times, five top-10 times in school history and 11 top-five performances at the UAlbany Winter Classic at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
"I'm really proud of how our team performed. I thought we had good vibes throughout the meet and I thought we had some student-athletes who were fearless on the track and it showed in their performances," head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith said. "I'm extremely pleased with Michaela's stellar performances this season and all the student-athletes who achieved ECAC qualifying times and all-time top-ten marks. We have some work ahead, but this group is putting in the right energy and you can see it in the results. I'm excited to see more progress as the season unfolds."
Senior Michaela Meyer continued her outstanding season with yet another school record, this time, breaking the mark in the 500m with a time of 1:11.96 to claim victory in the event. Teammates Sydni Stovall and Alyssa Armor finished in the top-five as well, with all three times being below the ECAC qualifying mark. Stovall's time of 1:14.80 was the third-fastest in school history.
Sophomore Halima Scott posted times in the 200m (24.25) and 400m (55.23) that were both the third-best mark in school history in both events and both bellowing the ECAC qualifying marks, which she previously achieved this season.
Scott also joined Stovall and Meyer, along with Taliah Cintron, in the 4x400 to win the event and earn an ECAC qualifying time of 3:45.81.
Freshman Jess Stratton placed second in the 3000m with a time of 10:00.00, which is the eighth-fastest time in program history.
Tina Capparell (mile), Whitney Bailey-Hicks (60m hurdles), Kai Starnes (high jump) and Meredith Krieger (pole vault) all earned top-five finishes in their respective events.
Up Next
The Blue Hens return to action next weekend when they head to the BU Invitational on Friday (Feb. 14) and Saturday (Feb. 15).
