NEWARK, Del. – Josh Hesson scored his first goal of the season but the Delaware men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 verdict to No. 22 Hofstra Saturday night at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
The Pride struck first in the 32nd minute when Ryan Carmichael headed home a cross from Matthew Vowinkel, and carried the 1-0 lead into the half.
Carmichael scored his second goal of the night with a short tap-in off a feed from Roc Carles in the 47th minute, while four minutes later the Pride's Storm Strongin added a penalty kick to make it a three-goal game.
Hesson got the Blue Hens on the board in the 66th minute when he collected a pass from Carlos Fernandez on the left side and blasted a shot from 15 yards out into the top left corner of the goal.
However Hendrik Hebbeker scored an unassisted goal for Hofstra in the 77th minute to conclude the scoring.
The Pride held an 18-5 shot advantage, while Scott Sampson made five saves in the UD goal.
"Hofstra showed why they're a top 25 team tonight, and I congratulate them. For us, it was nice to have Josh back for a few minutes, and I'm thrilled for him and his confidence that he was able to score," said head coach Ian Hennessy.
