POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The Delaware men's golf team won the team title while Roberto Nieves placed second among individuals as the Blue Hens wrapped up their successful fall season this week at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate.
After firing identical 278 scores during the first two rounds, Delaware carded a 283 on Tuesday to finish with a 13 under par score of 839 and place first out of 17 squads. That score is the second lowest three-round total in program history, behind only the 834 total set earlier this fall at the Golfweek Fall Challenge.
The Blue Hens also captured the team title at that tournament, and have won multiple invitationals for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
Drexel finished three shots behind Delaware with an 842 score, while Georgetown was third at 846.
Nieves carded a four under par 67 during his final round on the par 71, 6,564-yard Kilmarlic Golf Club course, finishing in second place with an eight under par 68-70-67=205. He placed among the top four individuals in all five tournaments this fall, finishing at six under par or better in each invitational.
Nieves finished four shots back of Drexel's Drue Nicholas, who earned medalist honors by carding a 12 under par 201.
Sparky Ariyachatvakin tied for seventh place at the tournament with a three under par 68-70-72=210, while Michal Bargenda tied for ninth place with a two under par 72-68-71=211.
Owen Manchester fired an even par 70-70-73=213 to tie for 21st place, while Hugo Kedzlie carded a five over par 72-71-75=218 to tie for 36th place.
