Mason Named CAA Offensive Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Closing out the regular-season strong was junior outside hitter Lani Mason, who was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Offensive Player of the Week for games played November 8-14, announced Monday afternoon by league officials. This is Mason's fourth time being recognized by the conference as the top offensive player this season.
Mason led the Blue Hens to an undefeated week (2-0) by averaging 4.67 kills (478 attacking percentage), 3.33 digs, 1.17 aces and 1.00 blocks in six sets played. The Chester, Va. native opened the weekend series against William & Mary (Nov. 13) with match highs of 19 kills and 11 digs to post her eighth double-double of the season in the Blue Hens straight-sets victory. She added three block assists and two aces to her stat line. In the 3-0 win against the Tribe (Nov. 14), Mason closed out the week with a nine kill, swinging at a season-high rate of .533, nine dig, five ace, two block assist and a solo block performance to help the Blue Hens secure the fourth seed in the upcoming CAA Tournament.
On the season, Mason averages 4.02 points, 3.41 kills and 2.35 digs in 96 sets played. She ranks among the conference leaders in kills (2nd, 327), points (2nd, 385.5), points per set (3rd), kills per set (3rd), service aces per set (5th, .39) and service aces (t-5th, 37).

Mason and the Blue Hens hit the road Thursday, Nov. 18, to open the quarterfinal-round of the 2021 CAA Volleyball Championship presented by Primis, hosted by Towson University, against the fifth-seeded Northeastern (12-14) inside SECU Arena in Towson, Md. Opening serve is set for 4 p.m.
