Men's Lacrosse, Growing Strong for Lax Stache
11/17/2021 4:12:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
Lax stache. Yup, it's a thing. Located above the upper lip, the mustache has returned this fall. The Delaware men's lacrosse program has chosen to participate in the annual event and 28 Blue Hens have accepted the challenge to grow a mustache.
From October to November, lacrosse players from all over grow out their mustaches and the lax stache becomes a symbol of the fight against cancer.
Hundreds of men's lacrosse players, and even coaches, from across the country each fall take part in Lax Stache Madness, a fundraiser that goes to support the HEADStrong Foundation. The premise is simple: grow a spectacular mustache, raise some money and spread the word about HEADStrong.
"We chose to participate in the Headstrong Foundation's Lax Stache Madness because of how cancer has effected a majority of people in some way," said junior Jake De Mare, the teams HEADStrong captain. "Especially due to the pandemic, screenings for cancer have gone down a substantial amount and the disease is hurting families more than ever. We chose The HEADStrong Foundation because it is a big deal in the lacrosse community so it was pretty easy to reach out and get involved. It is an honor to grow these mustaches, some more visible than others to support a great cause! If you are looking to donate or get involved please visit headstrong.org."
Many members of the Colonial Athletic Association take part in the event, as the HEADStrong Foundation was formed by former Hofstra men's lacrosse player Nick Colleluori before he passed away from non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2006.
