Blue Hens Fall To Oakland, 81-73, in Gulf Coast Showcase Final

ESTERO, Fla. – Jamal Cain scored 28 points as the Oakland basketball team used a hot shooting performance to defeat Delaware, 81-73, Wednesday night in the Gulf Coast Showcase championship game at Hertz Arena.
Cain finished 10 of 12 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies, who shot 51.0 percent from the field and knocked down 23 of 27 free throw attempts. Jalen Moore contributed 16 points and nine assists, while Trey Townsend and Zion Young each added 12 points.
Gianmarco Arletti came off the bench to score a season-high 16 points for the Blue Hens, who had their four-game winning streak snapped. Kevin Anderson added a season-high 14 points to go with four assists while Ryan Allen, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, chipped in 11 points. Andrew Carr was the fourth Blue Hen in double figures with 10 points while grabbed six rebounds to tie for the team lead along with Arletti and Jameer Nelson, Jr.
Oakland used an early eight-point run to go in front 17-7 seven minutes into the game, but Delaware clawed back to within a pair at 28-26 when Ebby Asamoah drilled a three-pointer with 6:08 on the clock.
However the Golden Grizzlies answered with a 16-5 run to take a 13-point advantage, before Arletti scored in the final minute to make it a 44-33 game at the break.
Oakland continued its hot shooting early in the second half, extending the margin to 52-37 on a Cain jumper three minutes into the period. Delaware later went on a seven-point spurt to pull within five at 56-51 following an Allen layup with 12 minutes to play.
However the Golden Grizzlies answered with a 12-4 run to push the margin back to 68-55 at the 6:12 mark, and the Blue Hens did not get closer than seven down the stretch.

"We finished 2-1 down here and we're a better basketball team heading home. We're disappointed we couldn't get it done tonight against a really good team. Oakland was able to keep us on our heels, and we didn't dig in enough on the defensive end. But we're still heading home with a 4-2 record and need to get some rest before a quick turnaround at Temple."
