WILMINGTON, N.C. – The University of Delaware men's swimming & diving team wrapped up competition at the CAA Pod Meet on Sunday, earning a split against William & Mary and host UNC Wilmington. Swimming at the Seahawk Natatorium, the Blue Hens cruised to a 237-101 victory over the Tribe, while dropping a 271-79 decision to the Seahawks.
"I'm happy and proud how both teams continued to fight on the final session," said head coach Pablo Marmolejo. "Each session we got better and we had some very good races today. It takes a lot of effort and discipline to travel this far and get better as you go. We're very happy with our results and excited to see our program improve the next two weekends to close our competition schedule for the fall."
Andrew Taylor got the Blue Hens off to a strong start with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 4:36.71. Teammate Justin Sabo was right behind him in fifth with a time of 4:44.83.
In a tight race in the 100-yard freestyle, Ryan Polino and Miguel Vasquez were both less than a second out of first place, finishing fifth and sixth with times of 46.57 and 46.63, respectively.
The trio of Aiden Duffy, Evan Frick and Eric Veit finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-yard breaststroke. Simeon Sabev clocked in at 1:52.84 in the 200-yard butterfly to claim third.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Vasquez, Polino, Veit and Sabev placed third in 3:05.04, getting a strong surge in the second leg by Polino.
The Blue Hens will return to the pool this Saturday, November 13 when the squad hosts Rider for a dual meet at Rawstrom Natatorium. The competition is set to begin at 12 p.m.
