Men's Swimming and Diving Sweeps La Salle and Rider

NEWARK, Del. -Â The Delaware men's swimming and diving team swept Rider (168-129) and La Salle (216-80), placing first in eight events in Rawstrom Natatorium Saturday afternoon.
"Great showing by our Blue Hens today," said head coach Pablo Marmolejo. "It was a tough turn around after our long weekend last week, but the team performed at a high level. We are in a great place as we head into our mid-season meet next weekend. By far our best start to a season in the last four seasons, and looking forward to finishing 2021 strong."

Miguel Vasquez, Tonislav Sabev, Simeon Sabev and Luke Rautzhan started off the day placing first in the 200 Medley Relay in 1:32.25 with Rautzhan closing out the last leg in 21.17.

In the next event, Andrew Taylor placed second in the 1000 Free, defeating La Salle, completing the race in 9:37.47.

Bryce Ciecko started off his day hot hitting the wall first in the 200 Free in 1:41.79. Later in the day he kept his pace, placing first in the 500 Free in 4:40.85, almost two seconds ahead of Rider.Â

Ryan Polino had a stand-out day, placing first in three events and second in one event. He placed second in the 100 Back, defeating La Salle, finishing the race in 50.47.Â

Polino later placed first in the 100 Free (46.61), 100 Fly (50.89) and the 400 Free Relay where he was the last leg with Simeon Sabev, Eric Veit and Vasquez (3:03.73).

Toni Sabev also placed first in the 100 Breast (56.14) and Vasquez took first in the 50 Free (21.50).Â

Gavin Currie hit the wall second in the 200 Fly, defeating Rider, in 1:55.23 he also placed third in the 200 Back, defeating La Salle, in 1:52.71.

Both Evan Frick (2:07.27) and Jeb Darhower (1:55.85) placed second in the 200 Breaststroke and 200 IM respectively to defeat La Salle.Â

The squad hits the road for the Patriot Invite Nov. 18-20 in Fairfax, Va., for the final meet of 2021.Â
