Blue Hens Host Fairfield in NCAA Opening Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Delaware field hockey team was selected to host Fairfield Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. in the opening round of the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Tournament.Â
The Blue Hens (12-8) earned their third straight CAA Championship title after defeating James Madison, 3-1, Sunday afternoon earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Stags (14-7) earned their automatic bid through a 3-1 win over LIU in the Northeast Conference (NEC) championship game.
Fairfield currently has a six-game winning streak heading into the NCAA Tournament. Jolanda Richter led the Stags' effort in the NEC toournament, scoring in the semifinal and having thr game-winner goal in the championship game. Teammate Luzi Persiehl added a goal and two assists in the title game. Goalkeeper Zoe Rosen put together seven saves in the conference tournament, making four stops in the championship against LIU. Â
Delaware scored three unanswered goals in the CAA title game against James Madison Sunday. All-Tournament team selection Kiki Oudshoorn led the way for the Blue Hens with a goal and an assist in the championship game. Junior Morgan Rigual was a key part of Delaware's offense scoring twice in the semifinal against William & Mary and netting her third goal of the weekend against James Madison. Goalkeeper Lizzie Gaebel held down the Blue Hens defense, making eight saves in the title game.Â

The University of Delaware has developed a digital system to allow external visitors to upload their COVID-19 vaccination or negative PCR COVID-19 test results before attending a UD-sponsored event. The Visitor Events Health Pass replaces the need for visitors to show paper copies or photo images of vaccination or test records when entering an event. The pass is integrated with the online UD Daily Health Check.
 ** To expedite event entry, fans should visit covidcheck.udel.edu in advance of event day and upload your proof of vaccine or negative test to the Visitor Events Health Pass, fill out the UD Daily Health Check on the day of the game, and show your green event ticket at the gate for entry.  Fans wishing to show paper copies or photo images of vaccination or test records can still do so, in combination with a green check mark from the UD Daily Health Check, for entry at the event.**

COVID-19 SPECTATOR POLICY
All attendees at the CAA Field Hockey Championship ages 12 and older, must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative PCR coronavirus test taken within 72 hours of the event. "Full vaccination" means that guests have received their final COVID-19 vaccine dose at least 14 days in advance of the day of the game.
