2021 Field Hockey Year-In-Review

NEWARK, Del. - The 2021 Delaware field hockey season came to a close on Nov. 12, but there were many moments along the way to look back on including a CAA Championship and a trip to the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Tournament.
Johnson appeared in all 22 games, making 14 starts in her freshman campaign. A member of the CAA All-Rookie Team, Johnson dished out an assist against Princeton (Sept. 17).
Emslie joined Johnson on the All-Rookie Team, appearing in 18 games and making 14 starts in her first season with the Blue Hens. She scored her first collegiate goal against Towson (Oct. 3) and scored a goal in the NCAA Opening Round game against Fairfield (Nov. 10).
Bradford appeared in 18 games, making two starts. She scored two goals and dished out two assists this season with her first collegiate goal coming against William & Mary (Oct. 17).
Femke Strien and Ashlyn Carr's 11 assists tied for ninth in Delaware single-season records. Strien and Grace Miller's three assists against William & Mary and Northeastern respectively are tied for fourth all-time in program single-game records.
Strien ranks seventh all-time with 107 career points, 13th all-time with 37 goals, tied for seventh with 10 game-winning goals and fourth all-time in assists with 33. Carr is currently tied 12th all-time with 21 assists. Goalkeeper Lizzie Gaebel ranks 16th in Delaware history with 135 save, 11th with a .678 save percentage and fifth with a 1.71 goals against average.
Duffhuis appeared in all 22 games for the Blue Hens, making 21 starts. She led the team in goals (13) and points (29). Her 0.59 goals per game average ranked 31st in NCAA Division I, while her 1.32 points per game average ranked 47th. She ranked third in the CAA in both points (29) and points per game. Duffhuis became the second player in Delaware history to be tabbed conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Strien, an IJsselstein, The Netherlands native, started in all 22 games for the Blue Hens. Her 0.50 assists per game average tied 25th in NCAA Division I. She tied first on the team with 11 assists and was second on the squad with 23 points. This season Strien scored six goals, including the game-winning goal in overtime against Fairfield (Nov. 10) in the NCAA Opening Round.

Welcome Newbies
Seven freshmen and a sophomore transfer. Going Down in History
Delaware's 52 goals this season rank 14th all-time in Blue Hen history, while the 48 assists dished out this season rank eighth. The Blue Hens had a total of 152 points this season, good for seventh in program history. Delaware tied the fewest shots and shots on goal allowed (0) against Towson (Oct. 3). Julia Duffhuis
Julia Duffhuis earned her first career All-American Second Team honor and was tabbed to the Synapse Sports Division I All-American Third Team as well. A native of Bergeijk, The Netherlands, Duffhuis was named to the NFHCA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, named CAA Defensive Player of the Year, earned a spot on the All-CAA First Team and was named CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.Duffhuis appeared in all 22 games for the Blue Hens, making 21 starts. Fifth-year senior Strien was one of 11 student-athletes selected as an All-American for the third time in their career earning Third Team honors. She was named to the 2021 NFHCA Division I Senior Team, receiving her third Mid-Atlantic Region First Team nod and was named All-CAA First Team for the third time in her career this season. Strien earned NFHCA Division I All-American Second Team accolades in 2020 and First Team honors in 2019. Ashlyn Carr
Carr, a junior, was named to the Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team. This season she earned her second career All-CAA First Team honor and was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team. The Delmar, Del. native ranked fourth on the team with 19 points on four goals and 11 assists. Her 0.50 assists per game average tied 25th in NCAA Division I. Carr dished out a season-high two assists in three games.Kiki Oudshoorn
Sophomore Kiki Oudshoorn earned her first Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team selection. This season she earned All-CAA Second Team honors and a spot on the CAA All-Tournament Team. A transfer from Syracuse, Oudshoorn appeared in 21 games, making 17 starts. She ranked second on the team and tied sixth in the CAA with nine goals. The Ede, The Netherlands native was also third on the team and sixth in the CAA with 22 points. Oudshoorn netted two goals, including the game-winner, in the upset against No. 9 Saint Joseph's (Oct. 1). She scored two goals in the CAA title game against James Madison and scored one goal in the NCAA Opening Round game against Fairfield.Grace Miller
Miller, a senior, earned her first postseason accolade, earning a spot on the All-CAA Second Team. The Mount Joy, Pa., started in all 22 games for the Blue Hens. She ranked third on the team and tied for sixth in the CAA with nine assists.The Conclusion
Delaware concluded the 2021 fall season with a 13-9 overall record and 5-1 conference mark. The Blue Hens earned their third-straight CAA Tournament title and 10th in program history after defeating James Madison, 3-1, in the championship game (Nov. 7). Thank You Seniors
The Blue Hens would like to thank their senior class for everything they have given to the program. Together the five seniors have won three CAA tournament titles, one CAA regular season champion title and have made three appearances in the NCAA tournament.
