NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Chrissi Rawak has announced a contract extension through the 2026 season for men's lacrosse head coach Ben DeLuca.
"It is an honor and a privilege to coach at the University of Delaware, and my staff and I are grateful for the opportunity to continue here," DeLuca said. "To be a part of this community is immensely rewarding. We are grateful to President Assanis and Chrissi Rawak for their faith and trust in us to lead these young men and this program. We are proud of what we've accomplished together in our first few years and thankful for all of the people who support us as we pursue success academically, athletically and socially, and strive to represent our university with distinction."
DeLuca has continued to bring success to the men's lacrosse program since his arrival in 2017. He has led Delaware to two double-digit win seasons in his first three full seasons, making him the first head coach in the history of the program to accomplish that feat. Additionally, he has guided the Blue Hens to three straight CAA Tournament appearances and four consecutive winning seasons at Delaware Stadium.
"We are thrilled to extend Coach DeLuca's contract," said Rawak. "Through Ben's vision, he and his staff have done a tremendous job in building a championship culture. He is a terrific leader and teacher that uses every moment, large or small, to help our players and program achieve excellence."
On the field, Delaware's defense has ranked inside the top-20 in the country over the past four seasons, while its offense has made major strides and finished inside the top-20 during the 2021 campaign.
"We could not be more excited about the future of the Delaware Men's Lacrosse program and having Coach DeLuca leading the way for us in the years ahead," said Jordan Skolnick, Deputy AD External Relations. "Ben and his staff have created a great team culture, done a terrific job on the recruiting trail and the team's CAA Regular Season Championship this spring is a sign of the great success we will see on the field for years to come."
The program was recognized at a national level in 2021 as the Blue Hens were ranked for the final nine weeks of the season. DeLuca helped lead the Blue Hens to an outright CAA regular-season championship for the first time in program history.
Delaware posted the sixth-best winning percentage in Division I and was one of only 10 teams to tally double-digit victories. The Blue Hens were one of seven Division I teams to rank inside the top-20 in scoring offense and scoring defense.
