Blue Hen Softball Announces 2021 Spring Schedule

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware softball team will play 21 home games as the Blue Hens announced their 2021 schedule on Wednesday.
The Blue Hens, led by third-year head coach Jen Steele, are scheduled to play their first 18 games at the Delaware Softball Diamond. UD will begin the year with a home doubleheader vs. Rhode Island on Feb. 28, and remains home the following Sunday to face UMass in a Mar. 7 twinbill.
UD hosts Coppin State in a single game on Mar. 10, before facing Albany in a doubleheader on Mar. 14. The Blue Hens then take on Lehigh and Bucknell in a pair of home twinbills on Mar. 20-21, before closing out their non-conference slate with a single game vs. Villanova on Feb. 24.
This season the Colonial Athletic Association has adopted a division scheduling format to cut down on travel and overnight stays within the conference. CAA teams will play an 18-game double round robin league schedule, comprised of three-game home and away series with each of their division opponents.
Delaware will compete in the north division, along with Hofstra, Drexel and Towson. The south division consists of Charleston, Elon, James Madison and UNCW.
The Blue Hens open CAA play with a home series vs. Hofstra on Mar. 27-28, before welcoming Drexel to Newark on Apr. 2 and 4.
Delaware then plays three consecutive road series, heading to Towson on Apr. 10-11, Hofstra on Apr. 17-18, and Drexel on Apr. 24-25. The Blue Hens conclude the regular season by hosting Towson on May 1-2.
The CAA Championship will be held at James Madison's Veterans Memorial Park on May 12-15. The top two teams from each division, plus one at-large squad, will advance to the five-team, double-elimination tournament.
Information regarding attendance at Blue Hen home games will be released in the near future.
