Newark, Del. – University of Delaware field hockey head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof announced Wednesday the addition of Morgan Bitting to his coaching staff as an assistant coach.
"It's a great day for University of Delaware field hockey as we are very excited to announce the hiring of Morgan Bitting as a member of our coaching staff and program," stated van de Kerkhof. "Aside from her impressive academic and field hockey track record in both high school (Lower Dauphin) and college (Duke University), it is her coaching passion, drive, and sincerity that will help our student-athletes with their personal development, overall growth and athletic experience as Blue Hens."
Bitting joins the Blue Hens from Randolph-Macon, where she served as an assistant coach since July 2019. Her main role with the Yellow Jackets was instructing forwards and midfielders, and the team more than doubled its number of goals per game during her lone season. Randolph-Macon ranked third in the league in goals and hosted a conference tournament quarterfinal match for the first time in five years during Bitting's season in Ashland.
"Morgan's experience as a former student-athlete combined with her work ethic and eagerness as an up-and-coming coach will allow for great relationships with our current student-athletes, our alumni, and recruits," continued van de Kerkhof. "Our coaching staff is excited to welcome her contributions as we prepare for our 2021 seasons and to assist Morgan with her coaching identity development. I know the University of Delaware just landed a first-class ambassador who will help us compete for championships on the field and in the classroom and further strengthen our community involvement here in the state of Delaware."
Prior to her time with the Yellow Jackets, Bitting was a standout at Duke University. A three-year starter with the Blue Devils, Duke advanced to the NCAA semifinals during her freshman year, and captured the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title in her sophomore campaign. Bitting appeared in 84 career games while making 63 starts, finishing her career with 11 assists and two goals. She served as the team's field captain her senior season and represented the Blue Devils in the NFHCA Division I Senior Game after leading Duke to its fourth consecutive NCAA Quarterfinals appearance. She capped off her career by being honored with the Stef Fee Duke True Award for her display of all-around leadership, work ethic and dedication to Duke field hockey.
"I am honored and excited to join the University of Delaware field hockey program!" Bitting said. "I look forward to learning from Rolf and Jordan and bringing my passion for the sport to Delaware. The Delaware field hockey players hold themselves to the highest of standards on the field and in the classroom. I am eager to help them achieve their goals and am grateful for this opportunity."
