Blue Hens fall to Dukes, 65-62
HARRISONBURG, Va. – Delaware women's basketball split the season series with James Madison after falling to the Dukes 65-62 inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center Sunday evening.
Junior guard Jasmine Dickey became the 28th 1,000-point scorer in program history after leading the Blue Hens (17-3, 14-2 Colonial Athletic Association) with 19. The Baltimore native now has 1,002 career points.
Redshirt junior forward Ty Battle grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds and poured in 17 points. Her CAA-leading 14 double-doubles are tied for fourth most in Division I.
The Dukes' (12-8, 8-5 CAA) Rayne Tucker led all scorers with 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor.
The loss was Delaware's first in the month of February and snapped a five-game winning streak.
After Saturday's barnburner overtime win, the Blue Hens struggled with a cold shooting night on Sunday, connecting on just 26.9% (21-78) of their field goal attempts. JMU shot 42.9% (24-56) from the floor.
The Dukes jumped out to a 21-7 lead after the first quarter. Delaware outscored JMU in each of the last three quarters, and briefly took a 50-49 lead after Dickey drained a 3-pointer with 6:43 remaining in the fourth. The Dukes responded with an 8-0 run that put them ahead for good.
Delaware closes the regular season with two home games against Towson next weekend on Feb. 27 and 28; both games tip off at 1 p.m.
The Blue Hens clinch the CAA Regular Season Championship and the top seed in the CAA Tournament with a win in either game, or a Towson loss in either of the Tigers' games against UNCW on March 4 and 5.
