RICHMOND, Va. – For the second consecutive week, freshman Cam Acchione of the University of Delaware men's lacrosse team received Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week honors.
Acchione becomes the first Blue Hen to earn the recognition in back-to-back weeks since Vincent Giordano '08 in 2005.
The Barrie, Ontario, native played a key role in the Blue Hens' 13-12 overtime victory against Towson on Saturday after tying for the team lead in goals with three. His first score came in opening two minutes of action and was the first of the game from either team. However, it was his second and third goals of the afternoon that stood out the most.
With his team down by three, 12-9, and less than six minutes left in regulation, he netted back-to-back scores to pull Delaware within one, setting up the Blue Hens to eventually score the game-tying goal and send the game into overtime.
The rookie needed just four shots opposite the Tigers to notch his second collegiate hat trick in as many weeks.
Acchione and the Blue Hens return to play on April 2 for a CAA tilt slated for noon against Fairfield at Delaware Stadium.
