Celebration of Champions: 1981 Men’s Lacrosse Claims Seventh Straight ECC Crown

The 1981 Delaware men's lacrosse team won all four of its East Coast Conference games to capture its seventh of eight consecutive ECC titles.
After opening the season with a loss to UMBC, the Blue Hens won three of their next four games including a 12-10 victory at Duke. Following a two-game losing skid, Delaware responded to defeat Franklin & Marshall, 16-12.
The Blue Hens then opened ECC play with a 14-7 win over Lafayette, and after a loss to Baltimore, returned home to throttle Lehigh, 22-9, for their second conference victory.
Following a loss at Adelphi, Delaware posted home league wins over Drexel (14-7) and Bucknell (15-12) to secure the ECC championship.
The Blue Hens ended the season with losses to top-ranked Johns Hopkins and Princeton, finishing the year with an 8-8 record.
Brian Haggarty led the Blue Hens with 40 assists and 56 points, while Mark Strohman scored a team-high 47 goals and ranked second with 55 points. John Taylor finished the year with 23 goals and eight assists for 30 points, while Jim Burns and David Darrell combined to make 257 saves in the Blue Hen goal.
