PHILADELPHIA – The Delaware softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Penn, 5-2 and 11-0, Tuesday afternoon at Penn Park.

The Blue Hens jumped in front during the opener by scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. Brooke Glanden led off with a walk and eventually scored when Emily Blum reached on a fielder's choice, while Julz Garber added an RBI single to drive home Grace Hrustich.

The Quakers, who were playing their season opener, got on the board in the third when Julia Schneider delivered an RBI single, while Schneider added another run-scoring hit in the fifth to make it a 2-2 game.

The game remained tied until the top of the eighth, when Chayanna Gallardo led off by blasting a home run to centerfield. Hanna Garber and Lexi Moore then singled, and both came around to score when Glanden reached on a Penn error.

Emily Winburn then fired a scoreless bottom of the eighth to earn her fifth win of the season. Winburn allowed two runs on nine hits while striking out eight batters in the complete game effort. Halle Kisamore recorded three hits to pace the UD attack, while Moore added two of her own.

Hrustich singled home Glanden in the top of the second to put the Blue Hens in front during the nightcap, before Glanden belted a two-run homer in the third. Brittney Mendoza drove home a pair with a ground rule double in the fourth, and following an RBI single by Karolina Flores, Glanden added a three-run homer to make it a 9-0 game.

Mendoza and Flores hit run-scoring singles in the fifth to close the scoring. Delani Sheehan picked up her second win of the year by tossing a four-hit shutout, allowing just four singles and striking out four in five innings of work.

Glanden finished with five RBI on her two homers, while Moore went 3 for 3 during the win. Mendoza and Flores each finished 2 for 4 at the plate, with Mendoza driving home three and Flores chasing home two.
