Blue Hens Open Day One of CAA Championship

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The University of Delaware men's swimming team opened up the CAA Championship Thursday night, highlighted by senior Bryce Ciecko's gold in the 500-yard freestyle.

Ciecko became the first Blue Hen swimmer to win gold since 2015 when Cory Camp won the same event in 2015 and Tim Ware won the 100-yard backstroke.Â
Ciecko was first to the wall in 4:27.82 to start the night off strong for the Blue Hens. Delaware's 400-yard medley relay team set the school record and placed third, including seniors Kevin Bargate and Eric Veit, along with sophomore TJ Yaglenski and freshman Simeon Sabev.

Bargate reached the "A" final in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing eighth with a time of 20.61. Veit was a "B" finalist in the event while sophomore Jacob Bishop advanced to the "B" final of the 500-yard free along with junior Evan Custance.

Junior Jeb Darhower swam the 200-yard IM in 1:50.56 as a "B" finalist and freshman Jack Hattery was close behind in 1:51.61.

Day two of the championships gets underway Friday with preliminaries beginning at 12:10 p.m.
