New Orleans, La. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their Women's Scholar Team of the Year and All-Academic Teams for the 2020 NCAA Division I Cross Country season.
"I'm proud of the team for this accomplishment, earning this recognition is an entire group effort," said head coach Ryan Waite, "Whether you were our fastest runner during the season or the 20th runner, every person's work in the classroom counts towards receiving All-Academic team honors. So each of the student-athletes should take pride in our team being recognized by the USTFCCCA."
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period. The Blue Hens, with a team GPA of 3.686, were among 233 other Division I programs named to the list.
Junior, Tina Capparell, was one of 269 athletes to earn All-Academic Individual honors. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 scale and have either qualified for the national championship meet or finished top-5 at their respective conference championship.
"Tina's individual recognition shows the level of commitment she puts forth, both academically and athletically," said Waite, "She has set herself up well for a strong junior and senior year in track and cross country, but even more importantly her focus on her studies puts her in a position to go to vet school and become Dr. Capparell one day."
