LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Hanna Garber was named to the NFCA All-Northeast Region first team, Brittney Mendoza was selected to the second team and Emily Winburn was picked to the third team, the organization announced Thursday.
The Blue Hens' three All-Region selections are tied for the most in a single year in program history, along with the 1999 and 2000 squads.
Garber becomes the seventh player in Blue Hen history to earn first team All-Region honors, and the first since Mariah Kondravy in 2015. Garber, who started all but two games in centerfield, produced an outstanding season for the Blue Hens as she led the team with a .384 batting average and 38 hits to go with a CAA-best five triples. A first team All-CAA selection as well, she ranked eighth in the league in batting average, posted 11 multi-hit games on the year and batted .556 in conference games.
Mendoza started every game at second base for Delaware, batting .340 on the season with team-highs of 35 RBI and 35 runs scored. Her 35 hits tied for second most on the Blue Hens, while her eight home runs ranked third. Mendoza led the squad with 11 multi-RBI games this spring, and hit a dramatic go-ahead homer in the seventh inning during last week's CAA Tournament win over Elon.
Winburn was the Blue Hens' ace in the circle, compiling a 13-4 record with a 2.79 earned run average. Her 13 wins tied for the CAA lead, while she also ranked third in the league with 84 strikeouts and fifth in ERA. She set a UD record by winning her first 11 decisions of the year, and fired four shutouts including a 1-0 blanking of Hofstra in the first game of the CAA Tournament.
