NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware softball head coach Jen Steele has announced the promotion of Amy Bellisari to associate head coach.
Bellisari, who joined the Blue Hens in the summer of 2018, has helped lead the program's resurgence during her three seasons in Newark.
Last year Delaware went 19-4 during the shortened season, tied for the best 23-game start in program history. The Blue Hens posted a 10-game winning streak, the third longest in school history, and ended the year by winning seven games in a row. UD led the CAA in multiple statistical categories during the 2020 campaign including winning percentage, total wins, hits and ERA.
This spring the Blue Hens finished with a 25-9 record, and advanced to the CAA Tournament finals for the first time since 2004. Delaware finished with a No. 23 RPI ranking, while the Blue Hens' three All-Region selections tied for the most in program history and their six All-CAA honorees are the most since joining the league. Delaware ranked 12th in the country by averaging 6.47 runs per game this spring, while its 36 home runs are second most in a UD single season.
"Promoting Amy to associate head coach was an easy decision. She has been vital to our program's recent success. She is a veteran, totaling over fifteen years coaching at the collegiate level. The vast experience and knowledge she brings every day challenges me, our staff, and student-athletes to continue to improve. Her commitment to ensuring our student-athletes develop, both on and off the playing field, separates her from others. I'm excited for her and our continued growth," Steele said.
Additionally, Steele announced that assistant coach Nikki Andrade, who has also been an integral part of the UD staff for the last three seasons, has added recruiting coordinator to her title.
"I am thrilled to announce Nikki as our new recruiting coordinator," Steele said. "Her ability to identify top talent is impressive, and her work out on the recruiting trail will help our program continue to thrive. I am excited for her continued commitment to attracting the best talent to Delaware!"
