Delaware Drops 4-2 Verdict at No. 10 Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Delaware battled back from a two-goal halftime deficit to pull even with 10th-ranked Seton Hall, but the Pirates answered with a pair of goals to post a 4-2 victory over the Blue Hens Monday night at Owen T. Carroll Field.
Andrea Borg scored the first goal of the match in the 23rd minute, while Johannes Pex added a penalty kick goal in the 42nd minute as Seton Hall took a 2-0 advantage into the half.
Orri Thorhallsson put Delaware on the board in the 51st minute, as he took a short pass from Hyunjun Sun and blasted a shot from 20 yards out into the bottom left corner of the net.
The Blue Hens then pulled even in the 65th minute when Rex Twum hit the crossbar before Jordan Miller followed with a header to knot the contest at 2-2.
However Seton Hall went back in front less than two minutes later on a CJ Tibbling goal in the box, while Camil Koreichi added a laser from 20 yards out in the 82nd minute to close the scoring.
The Pirates held a slim 18-17 shot advantage, with both sides recording eight shots on goal. Andreas Nota made six saves for Seton Hall, including a penalty kick attempt by Justin Ruth, while Renan Thomazo stopped three shots for the Blue Hens.
"It was a fabulous game of soccer from a spectator's perspective," said UD head coach Ian Hennessy. "Both teams were good value for money with six goals, great saves and a missed penalty. We started and finished extremely well and once we tied it up at 2-2, I thought we would seal the win. The penalty miss set us back, but even then we had some quality opportunities to score, but their goalkeeper was in exceptional form this evening. Give credit to Seton Hall though, they are a top 10 team for a reason. They were an NCAA Final Eight team last year and returned everyone, and I felt it was this experience that separated the two squads."
Delaware plays its home opener next Tuesday, Sept. 7, vs. Monmouth at 7 p.m. at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
