Cross Country Competes at Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown

BOSTON, Mass. – University of Delaware cross country headed north to Boston, Mass., to compete in the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown, hosted by Boston College, Friday afternoon at Franklin Park.
In a field 195 NCAA Division I runners, Tina Capparell set the pace for the Blue Hens with a time of 18:37, good for an 82nd place finish, in her first 5K race of the season. Hannah Lindgren, competing for the first time this season, followed close behind Capparell finishing 84th with a time of 18:40.
Jessica Pidgeon (19:22), Kate Rathman (19:25) and Devon Hoernlein (19:36), also made their first appearance this season capturing 119th, 121st and 133rd place, respectively, to round out Delaware's scoring five. The Blue & Gold also saw Katie Hally complete the course in 19:45 with a 137th place finish.
The Blue Hens totaled 539 points to finish in 19th place, ahead of Rhode Island, UAlbany and Maine. North Carolina earned the team title with 63 points, while Providence followed in second with 82 points and Duke rounded out the top three with 115 points. Tar Heel freshman Brynn Brown earned the individual title with a time of 16:53.

The Blue Hens are scheduled to return to the trails at the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University next Friday Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. from Goodman Campus Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pa.
