ELON, N.C. – The Delaware volleyball team fell in three sets to Elon in a CAA matchup on Sunday afternoon.
The Blue Hens (5-8, 0-4 CAA) were led offensively by Kirah Johnson and Savannah Seemans, who each tallied nine kills opposite the Phoenix (9-5, 4-0 CAA). Seemans added eight digs to her stat line, while Lani Mason logged a match-high nine to pair with six kills.
Ezgi Basaranlar posted a team-best 17 assists and second-year setter Lily Rogers notched 11.
SET ONE
The Blue Hens were within one, 11-10, before the Phoenix went on a 7-2 run. Delaware pulled within four, 18-14, after back-to-back points by Grace Underwood and Mason, but Elon built its lead back up before claiming the 25-17 set win.
SET TWO
Elon opened the second set by outscoring the Blue Hens, 10-4. Trailing by five, 16-11, Delaware outscored the Phoenix 5-2 to trim the deficit to two. However, that would be as close as the Blue Hens would get as Elon closed out the set on a 7-1 run to seal the 25-17 victory.
SET THREE
A 3-0 run brought the Blue Hens within one, 9-8, before Elon erupted for a 7-3 run to extend the advantage to six. The Phoenix lead began to shrink as later in the set, Delaware went on a 7-1 run to pull within three, 23-20. However, it was too late for the Blue Hens as Elon closed things out to seal the 25-20 win.
UP NEXT
The Blue Hens will return to Delaware next weekend to host Hofstra on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's contest will take place at 1 p.m. in the Carpenter Sports Building, while Sunday's matchup will go down at 1 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
