Dickey Selected to 2022 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Midseason Watch List
1/19/2022 11:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball
The Becky Hammon Award was first given out in 2020, with South Dakota's Ciara Duffy being named the inaugural winner. FGCU's Kierstan Bell won the award in 2021. The midseason watch list includes representatives from 15 schools and 13 conferences.
Prior to the start of the season, Dickey was named to the preseason watch list and the 2021-22 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason Player of the Year has not disappointed this season, including leading the nation in points per game for seven-straight weeks (Nov. 29-Jan. 10). Dickey is currently averaging 24.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. Just last night against conference foe James Madison (Jan. 18), the Baltimore, Md. native needed six points to become the eighth person in program history to reach 1,500 career points; she finished the evening with 26 points. One of Dickey's notable performances this season was when she poured in in a career-best 48 points against Eastern Michigan (Nov. 26), which placed her second in the program history books in points scored in a single game. She eclipsed Elena Delle Donne's 42 points scored at Hofstra back on Feb. 16, 2012 and her career afternoon landed her a spot on ESPN Sportcenter Top 10 plays as the Bonus #1 play.
This season, Dickey has posted one 40-plus and four 30-plus point game (three consecutive) performances. She has six double-doubles on the season and has been named CAA Player of the Week twice. Dickey leads the conference in scoring and ranks among the NCAA Division I statistical leaders second in points per game, 12th in free throws made (77), 15th in field goal attempts (271), 18th in free throw attempts (96) and 27th in final points (296).
