Roberto Nieves Finishes Sixth at Latin America Amateur Championship

LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic – Blue Hen senior Roberto Nieves finished in sixth place at this weekend's Latin America Amateur Championship held at Casa de Campo's Teeth of the Dog course.
Nieves, who held the lead heading into Sunday's final round, finished sixth out of 102 golfers with a five under par 66-73-70-74=283.
Nieves was tied for the lead after carding a six under par 66 during his opening round, as he recorded birdies on five of his first six holes and ended the day with seven against just one bogey. He dropped into a tie for third place with a 73 on Friday following a round that featured birdies on the second, fifth and 18th holes.
However Nieves responded with a two under par 70 during the third round, firing five birdies on the day, and held a one-shot lead at seven under par following Saturday's play.
Nieves wrapped up the tournament with a 74 on Sunday to finish in sixth place at five under par.
Nieves and the Blue Hens open their 2022 spring season on Feb. 20-22 at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Phoenix, Ariz.
