Blue Hens Cruise to 5-2 Victory at George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Delaware women's tennis team opened the spring season on Friday afternoon with a convincing 5-2 victory over George Washington. The match was played at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center in Washington, D.C.
The Blue & Gold got off to a fast start, sweeping all three doubles matches to take the point. The teams of Eliza Askarova and Julieta Honrubia (6-2) and Samantha Svendsen and Isabella Montana (6-1) came away with easy victories, while the duo of Dominika Sujova and Viva Laas snuck past with a 7-6 win.
In singles play, the Blue Hens won four matches in straight sets. Askarova picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 1 position, while Svendsen and Montana each cruised to 6-1, 6-1 victories at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Sujova secured a tighter 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 5.
The Delaware women will be back in action on Friday, February 11 when the squad plays its home opener against Villanova. The match is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. and will be played at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
