Men's Swimming and Diving Falls at Towson

TOWSON, Md. - The Delaware men's swimming and dive team fell, 165-129, to the reigning CAA Champions, Towson, Saturday.
"I'm very proud of how our team finished the season," said head coach Pablo Marmolejo. "It was a very positive and successful dual meet season for both teams. We had a very good meet all around in the pool and the boards, including some great breakout performances along with many in season best times. We walked away with a lot of information to make the right adjustments for our championship meet in a couple of weeks."
Philip Townsend started off the day strong for the Blue Hens, placing second on both boards. His mark of 249.83 in 1-meter and 264.90 in 3-meter diving are the highest marks earned by a Delaware men's diver so far this season.
The 200 Medley Relay team of Gavin Currie, Tonislav Sabev, Simeon Sabev and Miguel Vasquez placed second in 1:31.65 in the first swimming event of the day.
Andrew Taylor (9:52.50) took gold in the 1000 Free with teammate Jacob Bishop (9:53.88) securing bronze. In the next event, Bryce Ciecko earned a third-place finish in the 200 Free with a time of 1:42.34.
In the 100 Back, DJ Fechtman touched the wall first in 51.06, with Currie trailing close behind in third in 51.11. Toni Sabev earned a second-place finish in the 100 Breast with a time of 57.25.
Simeon Sabev earned a first-place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:49.29, the second-fastest time in program history. Jack Hattery placed third in 1:55.68.
In the 200 Back, Currie took the gold in 1:51.21 with Fechtman earning silver in 1:53.55. Evan Frick earned a second-place finish in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:05.93. CIecko touched the wall first in the 500 Free, clocking in at 4:42.15.
Simeon Sabev hit the program record books again in the 100 Fly. His time of 48.75 ranks third in program history and earned a first-place finish. Ryan Polino placed third in 50.58.
In the 400 IM, Taylor earned a second-place finish in 4:10.76. Aaron Wilmore placed third in 4:11.53.
The Blue Hens closed out the meet placing second and third in 400 Free Relay. The team of Eric Veit, Simeon Sabev, Polino and Vazquez placed second in 3:04.58. Coming in third in 3:08.97 was the team of Ciecko, Toni Sabev, Isaiah Bell and Luke Rautzhan.
The Delaware swimming and diving teams look ahead to the CAA Championships in Christiansburg, Va., starting Feb. 16.
