NEWARK, Del. – Delaware men's lacrosse head coach Ben DeLuca announced the appointment of Owen Grant, Kevin Lynch, and Mike Robinson as captains for the 2023 season after a team vote. Grant and Lynch return as second-year captains. Robinson serves as a first-year team captain this upcoming season.
Grant is coming off a stellar 2022 campaign. The senior received the Colonial Athletic Association's (CAA) Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year, was a First Team All-CAA selection, USA Lacrosse Magazine Second Team All-American, Inside Lacrosse Second Team All-American, and received USILA All-America recognition. Grant finished first on the Blue Hens and second in the CAA in caused turnovers with 35. He ranked second for Delaware in ground balls with 51. On the offensive end, he scored seven goals and added three assists. Grant was selected third overall by the Vancouver Warriors in the National Lacrosse League Draft in September.
Lynch brings leadership on and off the field for the Blue Hens program. In 2021, Lynch was honored with the program's Hard Hat Award, awarded to the competitor that the coaching staff feels best demonstrates the program's blue-collar mentality: tough, driven and selfless, not always the most talented player on the lacrosse field, but consistently the hardest worker, and someone who embodies the program's motto of "Well done is better than well said." Lynch is a Dean's List student at Delaware and earned a spot on the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. On the field, Lynch finished second on the Blue Hens in caused turnovers with 13 and collected 26 ground balls.
Robinson was one of the most dynamic playmakers in the CAA in 2022. He was a 2022 USILA All-American and a Second Team All-CAA honoree. On the field, Robinson led the Blue Hens, and the conference, in goals with 53. He was second for the Blue Hens and in the conference in points with 68 in addition to 15 assists. Robinson scored a hat trick in nine games and had five games with five or more goals, including a season-high six goals against Drexel on May 4 and NJIT on Feb. 5.
