NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware track & field head coach Kenyetta Iyevbele announced the addition of assistant coach Ryan Carter to her staff ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. In his new role, Carter will be responsible for the oversight of sprints and jump events and will begin at Delaware on Oct. 31.
"Ryan has the knowledge and experience that'll continue to elevate our team," said Iyevbele. "Ryan understands the gravity of what it takes to be a successful program from a performance standpoint as well as culturally. He's competed and he's coached at the national level. As a Delaware townie, he's always cheered for the Blue Hens. I'm so excited to have him on our side now!"
Carter comes to Delaware after most recently spending time as an assistant coach for cross country and track & field at St. Mark's High School (2021-22) and prior to that served as head coach of the cross country and track & field program at his alma mater, Glasgow High School (2017-21). Carter helped guide St. Mark's 2022 boys cross country squad to a state championship and the girls cross country team to back-to-back state championships (2021-22).
"The vision that Coach Iyevbele and the University has for these ladies is amazing," said Carter. "I am humbled and excited to work with Coach Iyevbele and Coach Heslop to continue to execute and achieve this vision."
Carter also has an accomplished collegiate resume highlighted by his standout career competing for Delaware State's track & field program. His accolades include two-time Division I All-American and 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) 200m and 400m champion. Carter earned his bachelor's degree in business management/economics in 2019 and is working towards a master's degree in special education from Wilmington University.
Carter was also an exceptional track athlete in high school. He was part of the 2008 Delaware Division I state championship team, a 12-time first-team all-state track & field selection (2006-08) and a two-time Nike national indoor and outdoor All-American.
A Delaware native, Carter previously served as a special education teacher at Red Clay Consolidated School District in Wilmington, Del.
