NEWARK, Del. – Delaware's women's lacrosse has announced their captains for the 2023 season. The Blue Hens will be led by Mae Dickens, Madison Hranicka, Lizzie Hsu, and Sydni Rosa. The quartet have combined to appear in 85 career games while at Delaware, and have started 34 of them.
"These four dynamic leaders each have a different approach to leadership which is what makes this group so unique," head coach Amy Altig said. "Mae, Madison, Syd, and Lizzie value their relationships with their teammates, help uphold our core values, and are passionate about serving others. We are fortunate to have a team full of great leaders to support our team captains."
Dickens is a five-time CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll recipient and has played in 20 games over her first three seasons, including starting all five games she appeared in during 2021. Last season, Dickens scored goals against La Salle and during a win against Elon.
Hranicka was an All-CAA First-Team selection last season and has started 26 consecutive games dating back to her freshman year. Last season, Hranicka led the Blue Hens with 19 caused turnovers and 30 ground balls, and was tied for seventh in the CAA in caused turnovers per game with 1.12. On April 23 against No. 11 James Madison, she recorded a career-high in caused turnovers with four. She is also a five-time CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll recipient.
Hsu made three starts while appearing in all 17 games last year, and ranked second on the team with 29 goals and fourth on the team with 32 points. Against Elon on April 16, she scored a career-high five goals and dished out an assist in a 13-6 victory. Hsu also scored four goals in a come-from-behind, upset win over No. 18 nationally ranked Temple on March 11, which earned her a spot on Taylor Cummings' "Taylor's Takes" in USA Lacrosse Magazine. She is also a five-time CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll recipient.
Rosa, a transfer from Penn State, was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team last year after she scored three goals against No. 1 seeded Towson.
