Season Preview: 2022-2023 Swimming and Diving

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware's men's and women's swimming and diving team is set to begin their 2022-2023 season on Oct. 8, 2022. The Blue Hens will be competing in their Pink Out meet as they host John Hopkins and UMBC at Harry W. Rawstrom Natatorium in the Carpenter Sports Building.

The Blue Hens will compete in five meets at home this season, as they also host James Madison and William & Mary on Nov. 5, Seton Hall on Jan. 21, Towson on Jan. 28, and host the Blue Hen Invite on Feb. 4. The CAA Championships are scheduled for Feb. 22, Feb. 23, and Feb. 24.

Men's Season Preview
- The men finished in second place at the CAA Championships a season ago, their best finish in program history.
- After strong first seasons at Delaware that saw them account for nine of the 12 medals at the CAA Championships, the Blue Hens returnGavin Currie, Toni Sabev, Philip Townsend, DJ Fechtman, Luke Rautzhan, and Miguel Vasquez for another go-around.
- Currie was the CAA Champion in the 200 back with a time of 1:45.38, and earned medals in the 200 medley, 400 medley, and 800 free relays. Sabev earned five medals and set school records in the 100 Breast (52.39), 200 Breast (1:58.34), and 200 IM (1:48.35).
- The Blue Hens also finished in 10th place at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship, where Sabev was named champion in the 50 breast.
- Delaware welcomes in newcomers Addison Collins Tim Grossi, Lucas Madariaga, Matvei Namakonov, Jacob Replogle, Kevin Seigfried, and Dylan Smolders.Â

Women's Season Preview
- Delaware returns 20 student-athletes from a season ago, highlighted by two former CAA Champions and eight former All-CAA honorees.
- Mira Selling leads the Blue Hen returners after a historic season where she was named the CAA Championship Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet after taking gold in the 200 IM, 200 Free, and 200 Fly. She set school records in the 200 IM, and 400 medley relay, and recorded top-10 times in the 100 free, 100 fly, 400 free relay, 800 free relay, and 200 medley relay and was named CAA Swimmer of the Week on three occasions.
- Mania Tasakou is back for her sophomore season after claiming the CAA 100 Breast Championship and setting the program record while also earning all-conference honors in the 200 breast and 400 medley relay.
- Julia Servas, former CAA Diving Rookie of the Year, also returns after earning Diving of the Week honors three times and qualifying for the NCAA Zone A Meet.
- Charlise Oberholzer, Anthi Lyra, Natalie Dobrzykowski, Aislinn Mitchell, Julia Cichowska, and Cristin Earley return as well after earning All-CAA honors a season ago.
- The Blue Hens bring in Erin Shema, a transfer from Cincinnati, and freshen Makennah Fickett, Bella Granetzke, Alexandra Misikova, and Alex Pastris.
