Men’s Basketball Begins CAA Slate at Home Against Hofstra and Elon

NEWARK, Del. – Delaware men's basketball (8-5) opens CAA play with a pair of home bouts this weekend, taking on Hofstra (7-6) in a nationally-televised game on Thursday and Elon (2-11) on Saturday.

SCOUTING DELAWARE:
- Delaware fell in its final non-conference game to Ohio, 95-76.
- Despite the loss, Delaware went 8-5 in its non-conference schedule.
- Jameer Nelson Jr. had back-to-back games above the 20-point threshold, scoring 23 against Rider and 20 against Ohio. He is averaging 19.8 ppg this season and has passed that mark six times.
- Jyáre Davis has scored double figures in all but one game this season after 15 and 13 last week. Davis is averaging 16.6 ppg and has heated up from long-range, connecting on five of his last eight from beyond the arc.
- Christian Ray scored 10 points and seven rebounds against the Bobcats, with his 9.6 rpg leading the team.
- Ebby Asamoah had a strong game against Ohio, scoring a season-high 17 points and going 4-for-9 from three-point range.
- Hofstra snapped a four-game losing streak in its last non-conference game, beating Old Westbury 96-48.
- The Pride went 7-6 in its non-conference slate which featured trips to California and a tournament in Quebec.
- Defending CAA Player of the Year Aaron Estrada continues to impress in Hempstead, averaging 21.6 ppg and 5.3 rpg to lead in both categories. However, he has missed three of the last four games.
- Darlinstone Dubar has been a reliable secondary scorer and rebounder for the Pride, averaging 12.3 ppg and 5.2 rpg.
- Sacred Heart grad transfer Tyler Thomas has fit well on the roster since joining, averaging 12.2 ppg and 3.0 rpg.
- Hofstra has scored 70 points or less in three of the last four games.
- The Phoenix enter at 2-11 after a loss to no. 18 Indiana on Dec. 20 and will take on Drexel Thursday at 4 p.m.
- Elon has yet to beat a Division I opponent this season.
- Graduate student Sean Halloran paces the trio of double-digit scorers on the Phoenix, averaging 13.3 ppg and 3.0 rpg.
- Max MacKinnon leads the Phoenix in rebounding at 5.1 rpg, also contributing 11.5 ppg.
- Zac Ervin has scored 10.6 ppg this season. Ninety-three of his 132 shot attempts have been from three-point range.
- Elon has scored 70 points or less in 8 of its 11 losses.
- Hofstra has always been an achilles heel for Delaware, as the Blue Hens have a 34-65 record against the Pride and have lost the last four meetings.
- However, the Hens have fared far better at home against Hofstra in history, recording a 22-26 record against Hofstra in Newark.
- Delaware has similarly had recent dominance against Elon. Despite a 10-7 record all-time against the Phoenix, the Blue Hens have not lost to Elon since January 31, 2019, holding a six-game winning streak in the series.
- The Blue Hens have also not lost to the Phoenix at home since February 27, 2016.
