Delaware Softball Picked Second in CAA Preseason Poll

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware softball team was picked to finish second in the 2022 CAA Softball Preseason Poll, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. The poll was voted on by the league's eight head coaches.
The Blue Hens received 42 total points and one first-place vote to finish second behind only James Madison, which earned 48 total points and six first-place votes. Elon received the lone other first-place vote and was third with 35 total points. Hofstra rounded out the top half of the poll with 28 points. Drexel (24), UNCW (22), Charleston (14) and Towson (11) filled out the rest of the poll.
Delaware is coming off a successful 2021 campaign that saw the Blue & Gold finish with a 25-9 overall record and a 9-5 mark in CAA play. The Blue Hens earned the No. 4 seed in the CAA Tournament and won three games to advance to the championship contest.
This season, UD is returning a veteran squad of 14 letterwinners, including six members of the starting lineup. The Blue Hens have eight new faces to the roster with the addition of five freshmen and three transfers.
The Blue & Gold open the 2022 season on Friday, Feb. 11 when the squad travels to Florida for the Stetson Lead Off Tournament. Delaware will be playing Indiana State and Stetson twice over the opening weekend and will take on Georgia State as well.
