BOCA RATON, Fla. – Delaware could not get the bats going as the Blue Hens dropped the rubber game of the weekend set at Florida Atlantic with a 5-1 loss on Sunday afternoon.
The Owls struck first in the opening frame on a two-run single by Steven Loden, while Shane Magrann added an RBI groundout before Jalen DeBose hit a sacrifice in the sixth to make it a 4-0 game.
Delaware scored its lone run of the day in the top of the eighth when Jake Dunion singled to right with two away, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored when Joseph Carpenter laced a double down the leftfield line. However FAU got the run right back in the bottom half on an RBI single by DeBose.
Dunion and Nick Vera each finished 2 for 4 at the plate for UD, while five players added one hit apiece. Blue Hen starter Joey Silan allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings of work, before Zach Klapak gave up one run in two frames of relief.
Jim Sherman
"Today was a day where we wasted good pitching with little offense. We've got to get the bats going. Hopefully once we get home and begin our long homestand the bats will come around."
