Black History Month Spotlight: Danielle Rochester

NEWARK, Del. – The final Black History Month feature for Delaware Athletics spotlights Danielle Rochester. The Delaware track & field student-athlete sat down with UD athletics to share why celebrating Black History Month is important and what it means to her.
Rochester, a native of Glenn Dale, Md. is a sprinter and long jumper for the Blue Hens. The four-year member is majoring in Political Science and Africana Studies. With the love for track & field that Rochester has it correlates with Olympian Allyson Felix being someone that has motivated the Blue Hen to excel.
You don't have to go far to find Rochester's inspiration…it's her mom. "My mom has always motivated me to achieve my dreams because she's extremely hardworking and always accomplishes her goals."
"It's important to celebrate Black History Month because it is necessary for everyone to learn the history of those in our country who have not always had a voice," said Rochester. "I appreciate the concept of Black History Month, but I believe it's important to celebrate Black history every day, and I hope that one day we can accomplish that."
