RICHMOND, Va. – After an impressive showing at her second meet of the season of the season, junior Megan Albamonti was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Field Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon by league officials.
The Westerly, R.I. native headlined the javelin throw for the Blue Hens at the Raleigh Relays Thursday (Mar. 24). After throwing the javelin four times, it was lucky number five for Albamonti, as she launched one for a personal best and a new school record mark of 50.62m (166' 1"), which was good enough for fourth place. Albamonti surpassed her 2021 throw of 49.60m (162'09"), a mark she achieved at the 2021 CAA Track & Field Championships.
Albamonti is the only CAA student-athlete to record a throw over 50m this season as she established the top mark in the league. Her throw ranks ninth in the NCAA East Region and is 20th overall in the NCAA.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Blue Hens will return to action for a two-day meet at the Colonial Relays, hosted by CAA foe William & Mary. The meet is scheduled to start Friday, Apr. 1 and run through Saturday, Apr. 2 from Walter J. Zable Stadium at Cary Field in Williamsburg, Va.
