BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Delaware track and field team has their eyes set on the upcoming 45th ECAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Boston University. The Blue Hens have been fortunate to compete at BU's Track and Tennis Center earlier this season (Feb. 11) and will use the advantage of seeing the track to edge the competition heading into the three-day championship event starting Friday, Mar. 4 through Sunday, Mar. 6. CAA foe Towson will be defending their championship heading into the weekend.
"We gave a strong group heading to Boston for the ECAC Indoor Championships this weekend," said head coach Ryan Waite. "Many of the athletes have good opportunities to place well here and improve upon their season and personal bests. The BU facilities are some of the best in the world, and the competition level will be high, so we're excited to see what we can do to close out the indoor season."
After a year hiatus in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Blue & Gold will look to build on the success of this season heading into postseason play. Delaware has rewritten the history books 29 times in five indoor meets. Coach Waite will be taking 13 Blue Hen athletes with him up North and they will enter championship weekend slated to compete in 10 events.
Alicia Lehman will be representing the Blue & Gold in the pentathlon event. She headlined the event with a personal best and is now UD's all-time leader with 3305 points at the Frank Colden Invitational. Lehman had two first-place finishes in the 800 meter run (2:31.20) and long jump (5.63m, 18' 5.75") while taking second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.10), third in the high jump (1.46m, 4' 9.5") and fourth in the shot put (8.36m, 27' 5.25").
Track Events
Competing in the 60m will be Aja Davis and Trinity Tapper. At the David Hemery Valentine Invite, Tapper (7.61) and Davis (7.62) claimed first and second place, respectively. Davis' mark moved her into the number four slot in the program's history books.
Marie-Frederique Poulin and Halima Scott will be headlining the 400m event. At the David Hemery Valentine Invite, Scott led the Blue Hens with a second-place finish (54.83) while Poulin's fourth-place finish (55.46) sits in fourth place in program history.
Jessica Harding will represent the Blue Hens in the 800m event. She kicked off the indoor season at BU's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener with a third-place finish time of 2:12.14, moving her mark into fifth place in school history in the event. Susanna Weir, who will be competing in the 5000m, ran in the same meet with a time of 16:49.62 (43rd place), which placed her second in school history.
Running in the 5000m will be Tina Capparell, who at the Great Dane Invitational placed second (9:45.83) in the event and wrote her name in the third place slot of the record books. Roxanne Ramirez will race in the mile event at championships after finishing in fifth place (4:57.35) at the Great Dane Invitational, which sits in eighth place in school history.
