Blue Hens Rout Rider, 15-1, in Home Opener

NEWARK, Del. – Dominic Ragazzo and Bryce Greenly each recorded three hits while Chris Ludman did not allow an earned run in seven quality innings as the Delaware baseball team defeated Rider, 15-1, in its home opener Friday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.
Ragazzo finished 3 for 5 with a two-run homer, while Greenly was 3 for 4 with a double, triple and three RBI to pace the 15-hit Blue Hen attack. Joey Loynd contributed two hits and three RBI, while Jake Dunion and Aidan Kane added two hits apiece.
Ludman produced another solid start on the mound, giving up just one unearned run on five hits while striking out four and not walking a batter to earn his second win of the season. Jose Ledesma and Nate Rolka then each tossed a scoreless frame to close out the victory.
Joseph Carpenter opened the scoring with a two-run single in the bottom of the first, while the Broncs scored their only run in the second when Jordan Erbe reached on a throwing error.
Greenly doubled home Kane in the fourth, and after he came around to score on a single by Nick Vera, Ragazzo belted a two-run homer to make it a 6-1 game.
Greenly drove home Dunion with an RBI single in the fifth, before Loynd singled home John Weglarz in the sixth to increase Delaware's lead to seven. Dunion scored again in the seventh when Greenly bounced into a fielder's choice, while Loynd doubled home a pair before four bases loaded walks in the eighth closed the scoring.
The teams continue their weekend series with a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.

"We got a great effort out of Chris Ludman, you couldn't ask for a better outing. And then two relievers got some work in and did a good job. Offensively, we received big days out of Ragazzo, Loynd, Dunion and Greenly. It was a good day. We needed this, and we're back at it tomorrow."
